As a child I was a huge fan of Jim Carrey and his movies. And to tell you the truth I still generally am. It’s been a good few years since I last seen Liar Liar so was hoping it would live up to how I remembered it being.
For those that haven’t seen the film it’s about lawyer Fletcher Reede (Carrey) having to cope for 24 hours without being able to lie because of his son’s birthday wish. The majority of the comedy comes directly from Jim Carrey as his character struggles with this curse; and Carrey is on fine form throughout the film.
Those that aren’t a fan of Jim Carrey’s crazy brand of comedy acting will likely not be impressed but for those, like myself, that really appreciate his style are in for a treat. There are many funny moments that still had me laughing after all these years.
However at times, and particularly the film’s ending, it is too sentimental and sappy that it sort of feels out of place compared to the mad antics that make up the rest of the film.
Despite this the film is hugely enjoyable and one of Jim Carrey’s most entertaining movies to date.
